Philanthropy

Triangle Fraternity is a growing chapter that focuses on philanthropy and community service. We participate in community service projects throughout the year and host one major philanthropy event, the annual Rubber Duck Race, during the spring semester.

We as a chapter currently have the expectation that every active member perform at least five hours of community service each semester. In addition to this expectation we also aim for each member to spend one full day every semester volunteering for the Manhattan Habitat for Humanity, Triangle’s national philanthropy. This includes helping with home construction or with the local Habitat ReStore shop. In addition to volunteering with Habitat we help with a multitude of other volunteer projects throughout the year. A recent major community service project was volunteering with the 2009 MLK Jr. Day of Service event that was co-sponsored by the K-State Volunteer Center.

The Rubber Duck Race is our yearly philanthropy event and is a joint philanthropy between Triangle and Acacia Fraternities. The event is held each year in late April or early May and raises money for the Manhattan Habitat for Humanity. Since the Race’s inception two years ago, we have raised more than $2,400 for charitable organizations and hope to earn $5,000 from the 2009 Rubber Duck Race to donate to charity.

The Rubber Duck Race raises its money through the sales of rubber ducks and t-shirts. Each participant sponsors a certain number of ducks; on race day all of the rubber ducks are released into Pillsbury Creek at the Pillsbury Crossing. The ducks flow downstream to the finish line while avoiding various hazards such as large rocks, sandbars and a waterfall. The first ducks to cross the finish line win one of the many donated prizes. Past prizes have included Nintendo Wii’s and gift certificates to Amazon.com, Buffalo Wild Wings, and other various shops and local restaurants.

If you would like any more information about the Rubber Duck Race or any of Triangle’s other community service activities please contact us for more information.
